Virtual ISP Relies on Equinox For Instant Digital Dial-Up



Blackpool based, service provider, Virtual ISP has chosen the Digital Modem Pool (DMP) from Equinox Systems to provide over 1,000 customers with direct access to its Internet and web hosting services. Each DMP provides 30 ISDN and analogue channels, and is scalable up to four DMPs per server slot.

Technical director for Virtual ISP, Paul Slater commented, "In less than half an hour, the system was up and running. We looked at other solutions on the market, but the final decision lay in the ease of setting up. With the Equinox product, it was simply a matter of installing a card, loading the software and re-booting, but other solutions such as the Ascend Max 4000 were still presenting difficulties after three days."

Virtual ISP serves both individual dial-up accounts as well as providing hosting facilities for web design agencies. Over 7,000 minutes is spent on data transfer via the DMP on a daily basis.

The company plans to upgrade the capacity of the system to 120 lines over the next 12 months and says it is also eager to trial the linux version of the product which is anticipated for release within the next few months.

Virtual ISP, which changed its name from Eurex at the beginning of this year, offers a comprehensive range of services including web hosting, free internet access, domain name registration, database integration, web design, secure servers, leased lines and e-business solutions.
