ONE THIRD OF BRITS LIKELY TO PAY THE PRICE FOR DISORGANISED HOUSEHOLD ADMIN
One third of Brit’s do not have the time to be organised and rarely compare prices to get the best deal
Despite constant bombardment of money-saving tips and advice, few of us will head into 2010 with hopes of increased prosperity if the way we manage our household admin is anything to go by. According to new research, over one third of Brits (32 per cent) do not consider themselves organised when it comes to household paperwork; and as a result, are likely to miss out on money-saving deals or even incur fines via late renewals of policies and official documents. The research commissioned by just-launched web service allfiled.com, which surveyed over 2,400 consumers , found that only five per cent have a system in place for reminding themselves when important documents or agreements are due to expire or whether they could be switched to cheaper deals.
According to research by datamonitor, on average, families waste £2,650 per year by overpaying on household bills proving that lack of control over household paperwork could be costing Brits’ dearly. Common scenarios include forgetting annual vehicle MOT tests (the latest figures show that this was true for up to six million motorists in 2009 which could result in hefty fines or invalidated insurance), forgetting to renew passports and not allowing enough time to find the best insurance deal before it is due for renewal. The assumption is that many of us simply end up renewing with the current supplier, opting for the first deal we find or paying fast-track fees to get passports renewed in time for our holidays.
Stephen Bennett, founder of newly launched allfiled.com explains, “The combination of Brits leading hectic lives due to family commitments, busy jobs and more supplier paperwork through increased regulation could be the reason why so much money is wasted on household costs every year. In my experience, a common complaint is that organising the household paperwork is complicated, boring and just takes too much time and that may be the reason why the majority of people simply have no system in place to help them manage the problem.”
Allfiled.com is a new secure web service that helps busy families to keep on top of all of their household paperwork. The free*, reminder-based system with over 5,000 UK supplier details and 100 file types helps you manage every aspect of your family’s administration; from insurance policies, appliance warranties, vehicle MOTs, mobile phones, utility contracts, passport renewals and even your annual pet reminders.
Being online, allfiled.com ensures that all of your information, such as policy numbers and supplier contact information is sent along with your reminders. By helping busy people to get things done quickly, the service also ensures that information is always available whenever you might need it, as opposed to hiding in a mountain of paperwork at home. The site uses bank-like security and the latest industry standard login and security techniques ensuring all personal information, is protected at all times.
Allfiled.com reminds the user in advance of their key reminder dates and can automatically and anonymously compare renewal prices from the market without divulging any personal details – thus avoiding spam emails and nuisance follow up calls. One click, transfers your data to the supplier you want to purchase from and your transaction is complete.
Alerts are sent via email or SMS message giving the user plenty of time to book in their car MOT, purchase a new tax disk, renew their passport or even remember to take the dog to the vet for its annual booster.
Bennett concludes, “With a large family of teenage kids and elderly parents, a busy job and being naturally disorganised myself, I know only too well how easy it is to forget to renew the MOT or passport which leads to unnecessary panic and stress and, in most cases, wasted money. Allfiled.com was created to benefit millions of households by making lives easier and to carry out the searches needed to find the cheapest deals when they are needed most.
The best thing about it is, it takes less than five minutes to join and set up your security profile, your key reminders and a supplier contact list with no annoying email communications (apart from your reminders), leaving you to add as much or as little information as you want to.”
*Allfiled.com is free for the first 12 months and costs £35 per year after that.
