Twitter-LinkedIn Deal Signals Deeper Corporate Social Media Integration
- Wednesday, 11 November 2009
The announcement from both Twitter and LinkedIn that they are to become partnered with one another sets a new precedent and reveals more possibilities for the integration of business and social networks according to Punch Communications, a UK PR Company with a worldwide client base.
The integration will enable the users of both networks to effectively synchronise their status updates between the two. Additionally, users will have the option of sending an update to one or the other or both, depending upon the nature and context of the update. This in turn means that these updates will be visible to contacts from one or both accounts.
The deal, which is one of many to come between Twitter and LinkedIn, will most definitely benefit both parties. Whilst twitter will benefit from increased corporate communication and interactivity on its network through the integration, LinkedIn will be looking to make the most of the additional features that Twitter can offer as a way of brightening its network and providing a real time stream of fresh content.
In the long term, Twitter will almost certainly be looking to offer real time updates on corporate movements, updates from big figures from large companies and other business events on the LinkedIn network where this information is perhaps more valuable. On the other hand, LinkedIn can provide Twitter with exposure to a much more lucrative, corporate focused audience, aiding it in developing any ambitions for potential future use in business communications.
Pete Goold, Managing Director of online PR consultants Punch Communications, said of the deal: “The Twitter-LinkedIn partnership could be key in the evolution of social media as a tool for conducting business. LinkedIn is the core online network for those individuals in the modern business sector who are looking to connect with one another, and so the participation of Twitter in these circles could serve to accelerate any of its developments as a business communications medium.
Punch Communications is an expert in the many subsets of digital PR, having added social media and SEO agency capabilities to its list of services to clients.
