New service lets PRs pay to watch journalist beaten up, using charity as an excuse

May 27th, Kingston, UK

A new service launched this week could bring joy to stressed out PR professionals. Starting this Thursday, public relations pros can pay to see a journalist have the crap beaten out of him. The therapy, designed to induce complementary emotions of schadenfreude and piety in PRs, will raise money for Help for Heroes, a registered charity that supports Britain’s injured servicemen and women.

On Thursday 29th, Incisive Media (formely VNU) launches the inaugural CRN Fightnight, a night of white collar boxing. The first bout of the night features a freelance journalist against Jason Philips, a heavyweight boxer from Toshiba.

Incisive Media has cleverly geared the contest to ensure a journalist’s hiding.

In a three point plan to ensure a one sided thumping, the publisher has

• Chosen one of the fattest men in journalism to represent the hacks
• Given him only 18 days notice to prepare
• Lined him up against a formidable opponent

The end product should please any PR professional, a hack under attack.

“There’s three reasons why bunnies will love this. Shedding their excessive wealth will spiritualise them. They can help people who really deserve some support. And best of all they can see a journalist getting a good hiding,” said Whadever U. Wannehear, tame analyst at The Hambleton Group.

Astonishingly, a new survey says only 54 per cent of all PR people would pay good money to see a journalist beaten up.

However, a further 46 per cent said they were pretty sure they would. But they’d have to check first, and would get an answer before the end of play. Or maybe Monday?
