Web postal service delivers savings - as well as mail
- Tuesday, 26 September 2006
Businesses may be used to buying stamps or credits for franking machines but now an online postal service not only provides the stamp, but is also printing and posting letters on behalf of its growing list of clients.
L-Mail.com is an online post office that accepts letters in an electronic format from its clients, either through its web site or via its automated integration account (an API for the more computer literate). The innovative service then prints and posts the letters on behalf of its clients via 23 global locations.
The convenience of outsourcing mail handling is only part of the attraction of L-Mail according to Peter Harris, the inventor of the service. "As an example, where a post office charges £1.19 for a 40 gram airmail stamp to Australia, L-Mail will process a 4 page letter for a charge from £0.70 including all the stationery, postage and despatch of the letter from within Australia. The end result is fast delivery and financial savings".
Some locations are more expensive, but according to Harris, the speed of delivery and automated nature of the service remains very appealing to the L-Mail client base. "Our clients are giving us great feedback on our service. Many are appreciative of removing the mailing chore so they can focus on their core business."
When asked if the growth of email is seen as a threat to L-Mail, Harris actually sees it as an opportunity. "Email bounces back, and with ever increasingly keen spam filters, the humble letter is often a safe alternative when it comes to needing to get in touch with a client".
Businesses are putting L-Mail to a variety of uses. Some see saving money a good enough reason to send letter via L-Mail, whilst others are integrating their online systems with the L-Mail platform to automatically generate correspondence. Sending address verification and account activation codes to clients is a common use for L-Mail and something the service does faster, and often cheaper, than traditional postal services.
