Today sees the launch of Gardens – an app that is set to make the iPhone as essential to the gardener as a pair of secateurs. As well as a free photography tool enabling users to take, label, share and scrapbook their gardening shots, Gardens also offers Magic Parcels – fiercely practical ‘How to...’ guides and videos exclusively created for the app by renowned horticultural experts.
The Magic Parcels – free and paid-for bolt on packages for the app – essentially combine expert garden writing, photography and instructional videos on specific plants, projects or problems faced by gardeners. Think Gardeners’ World meets the RHS Encyclopaedia of Plants and Flowers on exactly the topic you want, all accessible on your iPhone when you are out in your garden.
Magic Parcels available at launch include rose pruning guidance with the experts at the RHS and winter plant choices with world-renowned garden designer James Alexander-Sinclair. Each month will see new Magic Parcels available with forthcoming packages including Laetitia Maklouf’s Container Planting and Mark Diacono and Chris Smith on Apples and Pears.
Gardens also signals the end of furiously scribbling down plant names in wet notebooks when visiting gardens, allowing you to photograph the plant, caption its name and even file it in your own digital scrapbook within the app. Specifically designed to harness the power of the worldwide gardening community, the app makes it a simple one-click process to share the shot on Facebook, Twitter or via email to ask for plant identification.
Each Magic Parcel also contains a helpful shopping list with links to suppliers so you can tap-to-buy the relevant plants and products straight away.
The app is also available for download on iPod touch and iPad.
Gardens is a newest offering from the team behind intoGardens, the first garden publication designed specifically for the iPad.
