a major product release designed to help organisations deliver a flawless experience for customers using their cloud and mobile applications
9.5 release reduces risk of adopting new platforms by ensuring application performance across on-premise, cloud and mobile environments
LONDON, UK – October, 3rd 2012 – Precise, a global leader in application performance management (APM), today announced the availability of Precise 9.5, a major product release designed to help organisations deliver a flawless experience for customers using their cloud and mobile applications. Precise 9.5 is the first APM system to rapidly detect problems resulting from server and storage virtualisation resource contention. Precise 9.5 also address the challenge of managing mobile traffic growth.
“Our clients are building high-profile business and consumer applications used by millions of customers worldwide. Application failure isn’t an option, which is why they turn to us,” said John Vitalie, CEO at Precise. “By identifying and resolving potential problems before they result in application failure, we can support our clients’ most profitable products and services.”
Server Virtualisation in the real world
Virtualisation promises cost savings by sharing hardware resources, through the help of virtual machines. However, busy virtual machines competing for the same physical CPU and memory can cause resource contention problems, resulting in a serious drop in performance. These performance problems are the hardest to spot as they tend to come and go quickly, making it difficult to reproduce and correct later. Precise 9.5 solves this problem by discovering and mapping relationships between virtual machines and their physical hosts in real time, and correlating their behaviour to end-user actions. This allows IT to manage the virtual infrastructure based on business priorities; ensuring critical applications receive adequate resources.
Storage Virtual Pools - the great unknown
Precise 9.5 also addresses tricky allocation issues with virtual storage tools. Modern automated storage tiering technologies move data to optimize performance without user intervention. This saves time, yet makes it difficult for IT Managers to know where application data resides and whether a slowdown is the result of data moving to slower storage devices or something else. Precise 9.5 resolves this issue by mapping storage patterns and contention issues as they occur and recommending ways to fix storage virtual pool problems quickly.
“Resource contention for virtualised applications has been a major unsolved problem because of the dynamic and automatic nature of virtual and cloud infrastructure,” said Sherman Wood, vice president of Products at Precise. “Precise is the first company that can track transactions across physical and virtual layers and discover resource conflict, so that high-touch, customer-facing cloud and mobile applications perform as expected.”
IT organisations often struggle to manage the plethora of mobile devices, with high-volume mobile application access and unpredictable traffic, all of which can make application performance suffer. To regain control, IT must visualise, understand and influence access patterns. Precise 9.5 tracks every click from a mobile user and monitors activity as it flows from the mobile device through the application tiers to database and storage. It provides dashboard visualisations of hotspots and trends and correlates performance with parameters such as the device’s location, user and time of day. This allows IT to make informed decisions regarding mobile performance tuning.
“Precise provides deep visibility into how critical applications and transactions are affected by mobile access,” said Wood. “By making these patterns visible and actionable, IT departments can calibrate their systems and embrace mobility.”
