Through a unique and exciting mix of debate, music, comedy, film and spoken word, the Interrogate! Happiness Festival is asking ‘What Makes us Happy?’.
Set in the stunning surroundings of Dartington Hall, Totnes, Devon, Interrogate! (October 13th and 14th) is presented by The Dartington Hall Trust, a pioneering charity addressing some of the significant issues of our time.
Dartington has partnered with Action for Happiness to deliver a fascinating programme of events, activities and performances by and for people who want to make the world a happier place. The festival is a new way to explore an important issue and have fun while you do it, whether your interest is professional, personal or both.
Events run throughout Saturday and Sunday. Highlights include:
What Makes Us Really Happy – Panel Discussion
Comedian Paddy Cullivan looks for answers with philosopher Jules Evans and others to answer the question we’ve been asking everyone in the run up to the festival – What is Happiness?
Ten Keys to Happier Living with Action for Happiness – Workshop
Learn which things consistently tend to make us happy, from acts of kindness to trying new activities. Vanessa King and Mark Williamson from Action for Happiness use serious scientific research to open the door to happiness.
The Price of Everything – Performance
A performance lecture from Daniel Bye, illustrating the Interrogate! mix of hard subject explored through art. Billed as ‘a must if you’ve ever wondered about the difference between the price of an object and its value’.
Good Fortune – Does Economic Growth Bring Happiness? Brunch and discussion
Examine ‘what the economy should give us and what it actually does’ over the morning’s papers with comedians Paddy Cullivan and Anna Freeman, Stewart Wallis of the New Economics Foundation and political theorist Marc Stears. And you get fed!
Laughter Bootcamp - Workshop
Join Joe Hoare to learn how to laugh more for your health, wealth and happiness. No previous experience of yoga or laughter required – how can you not be intrigued?
Celia Atherton is Director of Social Justice at The Dartington Hall Trust. She said: “Interrogate! Happiness Festival isn’t your run of the mill festival. We have entertainment, great food and drink and an incredible atmosphere in abundance, while also examining an issue that is hugely important to every single one of us – happiness.
“Through two days of transformative, participative and action-orientated events we will be looking at ways we can make the world a happier place. You’ll be amazed, puzzled, provoked and tickled in equal measure.”
Mark Williamson, Director of Action for Happiness, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Dartington to bring together people from all walks of life who want to play a part in creating a happier society. The great thing about Interrogate! Happiness Festival is it involves serious debate about the things that really matter most in life, while also being fun, engaging, inspiring and sociable. What more could you want?"
Full day or weekend tickets are available from £22 (early bird tickets available until 31st August), and it is also possible to book individual sessions to build a pick and mix programme. And instead of a damp tent, those who wish to stay at Dartington have the choice of either basic accommodation on site or B&B in Dartington’s refurbished 14th Century courtyard.
