British women demand affairs as cheating website double female figures

Relationship coach Kalpna Manek from Magnetic Man says women are just as likely to have affairs.

One of the UK’s largest adultery and adult dating sites says the number of women becoming active on the site has more than doubled in the last three months.

In July 2012, there were 5.8 active female members (that’s members actually sending and reading messages) to every one active male member on MaritalAffair.co.uk. In May this year there were 2.8 active female members to every one man.

This shows a significant leap in women showing an interest in this type of naughty dating and demonstrates a desire amongst women in particular to enjoy activities outside of the marital relationship.

MaritalAffair.co.uk started in 2006 and now has more than 600,000 members, with some 700 new members every day. The site says it is now seeing twice as many women than men consistently and repeatedly using the site, which is making it an incredible place for men to meet a secret partner.

The website’s owner Paul Graham says that the huge jump in female membership could be down to the cult success of 50 shades of Grey: "The past three months have stirred up a very interesting mix: We entered into Summer with hot weather, followed by weeks of constant rain so maybe women were seeking a lift from summer blues. Then there was the Olympics and all the corporate events that go with it and often take men away from the home for days at a time. Finally the world got obsessed with the book, Fifty Shades of Grey, telling women that there are men out there who are real men if only you look! Quite the perfect storm to lead to ladies looking for an extra bit of naughtiness.”

Male infidelity constantly graces the headlines but female infidelity is given a far lower profile - far less than it deserves if the numbers from maritalaffair.co.uk are anything to go by.

Relationship coach Kalpna Manek from Magnetic Man says women are just as likely to have affairs. "It’s just an old useless stereotype that associates only men with infidelity. Though men and women may have different reasons for their infidelity. Sometimes women like the idea of getting married but not the actual marriage itself. They may have a high expectation of married life, which doesn't get fulfilled so they seek happiness elsewhere. Women can also lose their sex drive and attraction to their husbands after a chunk of time into the marriage and its common for women to view sex with their husbands as a chore whilst sex with other another men as rekindling a forgotten passion."

There are more active women to men in every age category, particularly amongst the 18-30s where July saw more than ten times as many women join as men.

Women in Avon seem to be the naughtiest where there were the most women – more than five times as many men. In Ireland, the figures were stronger than the rest of the UK with more than three times as many women as men in many areas. Tyne and Wear and Merseyside also have three times as many active females members than men.
