Software to integrate virtual desktops

Combining desktop virtualisation with unified communications to deliver enhanced employee productivity and better customer service.

5i, a UK leader in unified communications announced today the availability of BeAnywhere, a software application for integrating Citrix and Sun Ray based virtual desktop environments with Cisco’s Collaboration product set.

“We are seeing huge interest in the combination of desktop virtualisation with the delivery of unified communications” said Peter Howells, Managing Director of 5i. “BeAnywhere is a simple application which solves the annoying problem of having to log on and off securely to virtualised desktop environments such as Citrix or Sun Ray terminal services whilst, offering simultaneous access to Cisco’s Unified Communications Manager.”

Howells continued “BeAnywhere allows clients to be sure of securely delivering the correct user profile and unified communication toolset to the virtualised desktop, whatever their choice of architecture.”

An early implementation of BeAnywhere has been carried out by 5i reseller partner Central Networks and Technologies at Bron Afon Community Housing in Cwmbran.

Ian Taylor Head of ICT at Bron Afon said: “Through a combination of BeAnywhere, team broadcast groups and team voicemail accounts, the Bron Afon Help Desk now has much better visibility of their colleagues’ presence, and can connect the caller to the appropriate team more quickly, typically providing first-time resolution of issues and delivering an improved service to our customers.”

Key features and benefits of BeAnywhere:

- Single sign-on, integrated Citrix and Sun Ray desktop and Cisco IP phone
- Enhanced employee productivity and security
- Reduced support, training and management costs
- Secured, simple home working or hot desk deployment
- Reduced carbon footprint with an energy efficient solution

5i is a wholly owned subsidiary of 365 iT plc.

About BeAnywhere
Many organisations today have more employees than desks. To make desk sharing practical, a system is needed to enable employees to keep their personal
phone extensions no matter where they may be working. They need access to their own
telephony feature sets, such as speed-dial numbers and services like Follow-Me, Personal
Assistant, and Unified Messaging. This scenario is now achievable using any extension mobility-enabled IP phone system together with BeAnywhere.
