AKAMAI HELPS GOINDUSTRY IMPROVE ITS ONLINE SERVICES FURTHER

• Improved online services for global auction website
• Bandwidth costs reduced by 50%
• Page download times for Asia reduced to 6 seconds from 26 seconds
• Page download times for US reduced to 1 second from 7 seconds

London, United Kingdom, 30 June 2009 - Akamai Technologies Limited, a subsidiary of Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM), the global leader in powering rich media, dynamic transactions and enterprise applications online, today announced that GoIndustry DoveBid (www.go-dove.com), the UK-headquartered global provider of online asset management, auction and valuation services, has been able to improve its market penetration through improved online services and performance using Akamai Dynamic Site Accelerator. GoIndustry DoveBid has also reduced its bandwidth costs by 50 percent and achieved substantial improvements in page download times and the performance of its global auction website.

GoIndustry DoveBid offers online auctions of industrial assets. Its consignors and customers include the Fortune 1000, government organizations, agencies and the SME market. The company had used its own data centre to support its global website through which customers participate in online auctions.

GoIndustry DoveBid looked at expanding its existing infrastructure but realised this was prohibitive from both a cost and management perspective and decided to look at alternative solutions. In the end, the company decided to a trial with Akamai using its Secure Dynamic Site Accelerator solution. Using Akamai meant that GoIndustry DoveBid’s origin website would no longer have to support all the site traffic directed at it. This is because Akamai’s global network of 48,000 servers delivers website content to local data centres near end users, reducing delivery time, increasing security and reducing bandwidth costs.

“As soon as we started using Akamai we noticed a marked improvement in our website performance,” said Jody Gilbert, Head of IT at GoIndustry DoveBid. “Our customers in Asia had their page download times reduced from 26 seconds to just six seconds, and in the US this was reduced from seven seconds to one second. In addition, the Akamai solution was very quick to implement and we have also managed to reduce our bandwidth costs by 50 percent since using Akamai."

Malcolm Rowe, Regional Manager - Northern Europe, at Akamai, said, “Like many of our customers that use the Internet for commerce and sales, GoIndustry DoveBid was being hit by both high bandwidth costs and performance issues from conventional infrastructure solutions. Using Akamai, our customers are able to use a service-based approach to their online performance and bandwidth problems, greatly increasing performance, whilst at the same time reducing costs, thereby improving their business by increasing sales and reducing costs.”

Running on Akamai’s globally-distributed, highly-scalable platform of more than 48,000 deployed servers in over 900 networks across 70 countries, Akamai’s Dynamic Site Accelerator solution accelerates and secures the delivery of the most dynamically-assembled websites to consumers without requiring costly IT build-outs. Unlike traditional datacenter-focused Web infrastructure, Dynamic Site Accelerator addresses the shortcomings of the Internet itself to reduce site abandonment rates and increase completed transactions.
