Information Security Forum Annual World Congress from 16 – 18 November 2008
8 October 2008: Over 500 senior information risk and security professionals from the world’s leading companies and organizations will be converging on Barcelona, Spain for the Information Security Forum’s (ISF) 19th Annual World Congress on 16th–18th November. The event provides a unique environment to harness expert knowledge and learn from valuable practical experience in order to face growing global information security threats and challenges.
Recognized as the world’s leading information security conference, this year’s ISF Congress boasts an impressive line up of keynote speakers, including the ISF’s new president, Prof. Howard A Schmidt, whose previous roles include special advisor for cyberspace security to the White House, chief security strategist at eBay and chief security officer for Microsoft Corp.
“Information security is no longer just a technical challenge and both businesses and governments need to address operational and reputational risk at the highest level,” says Howard Schmidt. “Threats range from the growth in organized crime and cyber-warfare to avoiding accidental or deliberate leakage of confidential data. And of course the increasing compliance demands of corporate governance and legislation put more pressure on senior business and information security managers.”
The Congress will be opened by John Maule, Professor of Human Decision Making at Leeds University Business School, by addressing the issue of ‘how faulty thinking leads people to misperceive information security threats’. Other keynote speakers include Mark Hughes, Director of BT Group Security on ‘securing the supply chain in the global economy’; Marcus Robinson a Partner at PwC and Mary Aiston, Director of Governance and Security at HMRC on ‘the challenges in providing assurance’; and Professor Enrique Dans from IE Business School talking about ‘the real risk of lagging behind’.
In addition to the main room sessions, there will be almost 50 break-out sessions across 10 different streams from compliance, security awareness and convergence to security tools and techniques and risk management. These will be presented by ISF Members and senior ISF consultants along with other leading information security experts. The event will be chaired by the BBC Royal and Diplomatic correspondent, Nicholas Witchell.
“2008 has seen headlines of serious data loss, international cyber-warfare, organized fraud, commercial espionage and hacking at the highest levels,” says Kim Aarenstrup, Chairman of the ISF and Group Head of Information Security at the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group. “These are just some of the challenges that face today’s information security professionals and reinforce the importance of harnessing their knowledge and expertise to avoid future breaches and facilitate greater efficiency and productivity. The ISF Annual Congress provides an opportunity to meet, listen, debate and gain practical advice in a peer-to-peer, confidential environment."
Attendance at the Annual Congress is exclusive to ISF Members and is one of the benefits of ISF membership. The ISF is a not-for-profit, association of some 300 leading international companies and organizations, which fund and co-operate in the development of practical, business driven solutions to information security and risk management problems. The ISF undertakes leading-edge research and has invested more than US$100 million to create a library of over 200 authoritative reports along with information risk methodologies and tools that are available free of charge to Members.
