MYSQL AB JOINS THE ECLIPSE FOUNDATION
SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- March 21, 2006 -- MySQL AB, developer of the world's most popular open source database, today announced it has joined the Eclipse Foundation as an Add-In Provider. The company plans to contribute work to the Eclipse Data Tools Platform project (http://eclipse.org/datatools) and collaborate with Zend Technologies and others on the Eclipse PHP IDE project (http://www.eclipse.org/proposals/php-ide). The announcement was made in advance of the EclipseCon 2006 conference, being held here this week.
"It will be exciting to see what results from two large and active open source software communities coming together," said Mike Milinkovich, executive director of the Eclipse Foundation. "We welcome the contributions from MySQL AB and their database developer community to our efforts."
Kaj Arnö, MySQL AB's vice president of community relations, said, "MySQL wants to support the community of open source developers who use the Eclipse platform and IDE to build applications in a variety of programming languages -- notably Java, C++, PHP, and Python. By sharing innovation with our fellow members, we're excited to participate in the Data Tools Platform project to provide open source SQL tools for database developers and DBAs. Likewise, we also look forward to working with Zend and others on the Eclipse PHP IDE project, delivering tighter MySQL product integration for our sizeable PHP developer community."
Andi Gutmans, Zend Technologies' co-founder and vice president of technology, said, "MySQL and PHP have such a natural and historic bond, it's great to have MySQL working with Zend and other PHP community members on the Eclipse PHP IDE project and similar collaborative efforts. This is a good example of how open source cooperation can benefit community developers, software vendors and corporate end-users alike by delivering standard tools and solutions that will further facilitate application development with PHP."
