HiT Software Releases Full SQL Product Line Support for DB2 Distributed Transactions and Static SQL on z/OS, OS/390, and OS/400.

15th October 2002 (DS0131) ~ Developer Solutions, the application
development specialist and distributor for HiT Software today announced
that new releases of its ODBC, OLE DB, and JDBC SQL middleware products
support distributed transactions and Static SQL for DB2 databases
running on z/OS, OS/390, and OS/400 platforms. Distributed transaction
support enables applications to confirm updates to multiple databases
before committing a transaction. Without distributed transaction
support, applications must update databases individually and potentially
roll back multiple record changes should any single database update
fail. Consequently, such temporary database changes can cause inaccurate
decision support and misreporting.

Static SQL support allows developers to precompile SQL statements used
within an application in order to significantly increase client
application performance, free DB2 server CPU load, and take advantage of
data access plan security. HiT static SQL support requires no
modification to the client DB2 server application and includes utilities
to precompile and bind SQL statements to packages on the DB2 server. DB2
server performance is improved since dynamic SQL data access plans are
not required, thus saving CPU cycles. Also, once the static SQL packages
are created by HiT SQL middleware, enhanced security structures can be
set for these packages rather than for DB2 tables.

HiT ODBC and OLE DB SQL middleware products fully support the Microsoft
Transaction Server environment for Windows applications. HiT JDBC SQL
middleware complies with the XA industry standard for Java applications.
Both Windows and Java products support DB2 UDB for OS/390 v6.1, DB2 UDB
for OS/400 V5R1, and later DB2 releases on these platforms. No
additional server software is necessary for these environments. HiT
Software products support IBM Distributed Relational Database
Architecture (DRDA) and IBM Optimized Database Server protocols, and
they interoperate as a standard client requestor with DB2 databases.
Additionally, all HiT SQL middleware
products support SSL v3.0 when used with the HiT SSL Server to securely
authenticate and encrypt data flows between applications and DB2
servers.

Windows and Java applications using standard SQL connectivity can
migrate to the new HiT Software releases in order to take advantage of
the powerful direct access and distributed transaction support.

"As the sophistication of enterprise application integration and portal
solutions increase, they require higher performance and distributed
transaction support in order to deploy high value solutions," said
Adrian Handley, Managing Director at Developer Solutions. "The addition
of static SQL and distributed transaction support within HiT's Windows
and Java SQL middleware gives IT the necessary tools to simplify
application development and speed deployment."

HiT ODBC and OLE DB SQL middleware can be installed on Window XP, 2000,
and 9X, and NT client and server platforms. HiT JDBC SQL middleware can
be installed on any JDK 1.2 or later platform.

HiT ODBC, OLE DB, and JDBC SQL middleware with distributed transaction
support is available immediately. Trial versions are downloadable from
the HiT Software web site at http://www.hitsw.com/ .
